How to count points in Rummy?

Rummy is a card game where the goal is to have the lowest score possible. At the end of each round, each player adds up the points of the cards remaining in their hand. The round winner scores 0 points. Scores accumulate. Elimination occurs when a player exceeds a threshold (1000 by default).

  • Number cards (2-10): face value in points
  • Face cards (Jack, Queen, King): 10 points each
  • Ace: 1 point (or 11 points depending on the chosen variant)

What Rummy variants are available in Scorio?

Scorio offers 4 preset Rummy variants, each with its own scoring rules and penalties.

  • Standard Rummy (51): minimum first meld of 51 points, Rummy Sec enabled, elimination at 1000 points
  • Rummy 500: fast variant with elimination at 500 points
  • Gin Rummy: American variant, no 51-point rule, Knock/Gin system
  • Rummy Sec Only: only Rummy Sec counts, ideal for purists

What is Rummy Sec and how does Scorio handle it?

Rummy Sec is a penalty applied when a player lays down all their cards at once, without having placed any combination before. All other players receive a 200-point penalty. Scorio automatically detects this situation: when a player scores 0 points and 2 or more players have a score above 20.

How does elimination by target score work?

A player is eliminated when their total score exceeds the defined threshold (1000 in Standard, 500 in Rummy 500). Scorio handles elimination automatically: it warns you when a player approaches the threshold and declares them eliminated as soon as they exceed it. The game continues until only one player remains.
