How to count points in French Tarot?

French Tarot is a card game for 3 to 5 players where one player (the Taker) plays alone against all others (the Defenders). Point counting in Tarot is notoriously complex because it depends on the number of Oudlers held by the Taker, the type of contract chosen and any bonuses. Scorio fully automates this calculation with a step-by-step assistant that guides you through each round.

  • With 3 Oudlers: the Taker must reach 36 points
  • With 2 Oudlers: the Taker must reach 41 points
  • With 1 Oudler: the Taker must reach 51 points
  • With 0 Oudlers: the Taker must reach 56 points

What are the Tarot contracts and their multipliers?

In Tarot, the Taker chooses a contract that determines the multiplier applied to the final score. The more ambitious the contract, the higher the risk but the greater the point multiplier. Scorio knows all 4 official contracts and automatically calculates the final score based on the chosen multiplier.

  • Petite — multiplier x1: the most cautious contract, the Taker uses the Kitty
  • Garde — multiplier x2: standard contract, the Taker uses the Kitty
  • Garde Sans (Without the Kitty) — multiplier x4: the Taker does not look at the Kitty
  • Garde Contre (Against the Kitty) — multiplier x6: the Kitty goes to the Defenders

What are Oudlers in Tarot?

Oudlers are the 3 most important cards in Tarot. They determine the number of points the Taker must reach to fulfill their contract. The more Oudlers the Taker holds at the end of the round, the fewer points they need to win. The 3 Oudlers are: the Excuse (the Tarot Joker), the 21 of Trumps (the highest card) and the 1 of Trumps (the Petit). Scorio automatically counts the Oudlers and displays the corresponding point target.

How do bonuses work in Tarot?

In addition to the base score, Tarot offers several bonuses that can significantly increase the points scored. Scorio automatically manages these bonuses when you activate them in the game settings.

  • Petit au Bout (+10 points): the Petit (1 of Trumps) is played in the last trick
  • Simple Handful (+20 points): the player shows a defined number of trumps
  • Double Handful (+40 points): the player shows more trumps
  • Triple Handful (+60 points): the player shows nearly all their trumps
  • Slam (+200 points): the Taker wins all 18 tricks

How does Scorio handle 5-player Tarot?

5-player Tarot adds a unique mechanic: the King Call. The Taker names a King and the player holding that King becomes their secret partner for the round. Scorio automatically detects 5-player games and enables partner management. The score assistant will guide you to select the Taker, the Called player, the contract and the Oudlers, then calculate the point distribution among the 3 roles: Taker, Called player and Defenders.
