Klaverjas Score Counter: Trumps, Roem and Pit

Klaverjas (or Klaverjassen) is the most popular trick-taking card game in the Netherlands. It is played by 4 players split into 2 teams. Each deal, one team becomes the "taking team": it chooses the trump and commits to winning the majority of the points. Scoring is based on 162 card points, Roem (the melds) and any bonuses. Scorio fully automates this calculation, deal after deal.

Roem covers the card combinations that earn bonus points, in addition to trick points. Each team declares its Roem at the end of the deal, and Scorio automatically adds it to the score. It is a key strategic element: good Roem can turn a round around. The app handles all the official types of Roem in Klaverjas.

• Stuk (King + Queen of trumps, the Dutch "belote"): +20 points
• A sequence of 3 consecutive cards of the same suit: +20 points
• A sequence of 4 consecutive cards of the same suit: +50 points
• Four of a Kind — 4 cards of the same rank (excluding the 4 Jacks): +100 points
• 4 Boeren — the four Jacks together: +200 points, the highest Roem

Each deal, Scorio's Klaverjas assistant first asks you to designate the taking team, then to choose the trump from the four suits, with their Dutch names: Clubs (Klaveren), Diamonds (Ruiten), Hearts (Harten) and Spades (Schoppen). This choice determines the card ranking order (the Jack and the 9 of trumps become the most powerful cards). Once the trump is selected, all that's left is to enter the card points and the Roem: Scorio takes care of the rest.

"Nat" is the central rule of Klaverjas, equivalent to Belote's "Dedans". If the taking team fails to total at least 82 card points (Roem not counted toward the target), its contract is considered failed. It then scores 0 for the deal, and the opposing team receives all 162 card points, plus all the Roem from the round. Scorio automatically detects Nat as soon as you enter the points, and shifts the score to the opponents without any risk of error.

Klaverjas is played over a set number of deals (often 16) or until a target score, depending on your habits. Scorio displays each team's cumulative score in real time, deal after deal, and shows you which team is in the lead. At the end, you can view the complete history: for each deal, the taking team, the chosen trump, the card points, the Roem, any Pit and any Nat. Perfect for reliving the key moments of a close game.
